Trailblazer, Visionary, and Champion of Excellence
Patricia Currence is a native of Rock Hill, SC, an established recording artist manager, and co-founder of Mike Chek Entertainment. She is the wife of a local Pastor, the mother of two boys, Rudy and Patrick Currence, and the grandmother of Isla-Marie Rose Currence.
Patricia is a trailblazer in her own right, emerging in the mid 1970’s as one of the first black female computer programmers to grace the computer science, engineering and information technology industry. She retired from this field with 30+ years of service and continues to enjoy her role in artist management and consulting to present day. Always possessing an affinity and passion for music, Patricia discovered and groomed the musical talents of her two sons beginning at the tender ages of 3 and 5 years old respectively.
Patricia invested in their early music careers which eventually led to the duo winning the televised talent competition “Showtime At the Apollo” in Harlem, NY in the late 1990’s. This momentum paired with the teens’ local success eventually led to Rudy being discovered by label executives at a industry showcase in Charlotte, NC and securing his first major recording deal with Platinum Entertainment.
Patricia brokered this deal and has continued to manage Rudy’s career leading him to become a Grammy nominated songwriter, Dove Award winning producer, and two time No. 1 Billboard recording artist. Patricia has also been instrumental in her youngest son Patrick’s music career, professionally known as “Mykal Star”, helping him become a Top 20 Billboard producer on his older brother’s hit Gospel song “Testimony” which peaked at #18 on the charts.
Her work ethic, commitment to excellence, and unwavering tenacity make her a valuable asset and without doubt a major contributor to both her sons’ success in the music industry. Although there have been many challenges through the years, Patricia’s motto remains that no job is too great or small and there is no problem that can not be solved. Patricia believes that with God, all things are possible.
